We are thrilled to announce the winner of our second Donation Give-Away drawing of 2016!
Congratulations goes to Heather Angstreich of Bethpage, NY. Heather is the Special Events Coordinator for Adults & Children with Learning & Developmental Disabilities (ACLD), a leading not-for-profit agency on Long Island that proudly serves the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
ACLD provides opportunities for children and adults with autism, learning and other developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives, increase independence and foster supportive relationships within the community. Founded in 1957, ACLD serves the needs of more than 3,000 children and adults with learning disabilities, autism and other developmental disabilities, and provides support for their families.
It’s an honor to donate a $1,000 Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts gift card for their use in upcoming auctions. See how Heather plans to use the prize, plus learn more about her organization and biggest fundraising challenges, below!

Our goal is to use the certificates either as stand-alone prizes or in combination with other prizes in the auction portions of our two largest fundraisers of the year, the ACLD Annual Golf Outing and the ACLD Enviable Life Ball. Every year, the live and silent auctions are highlight features of these events.
What is your biggest fundraising challenge?
Like many nonprofit organizations, our biggest fundraising challenge is securing unrestricted funds. Many donations we receive can only be used for certain purposes or programs, even if those purposes already have the funds needed to operate. We need flexible funds that can be used where they’re most needed, which is a key reason our Annual Golf Outing, Enviable Life Ball and their auctions are so important to the work we do. Since the funds raised by these events are not restricted to any one purpose, these funds support the efforts and needs of ACLD as a whole.
How did you hear about Winspire?
When I began working at ACLD, it was my first position at a not-for-profit where I needed to learn about different fundraising opportunities and how to make them as successful as possible. I found Winspire in my research and have really benefited from the Winspire News articles that I receive. They offer great ideas and knowledge on what they know best.
What else would you like people to know about ACLD?
An ‘enviable life’ means a life where individuals have the ability to make choices about the things which impact their daily life, where they know their voices will be heard and their desires matter, and where they have the freedom and support they need to pursue their goals. It’s the life we all want to live, and we work every day to make sure those who turn to us for support can pursue that kind of life.
In carrying out this mission, ACLD employs more than 1,100 people and operates 77 different program sites including group homes and apartment programs across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Service programs include Early Childhood Services, Day Habilitation, Residential alternatives, Vocational training and job placement, Recreation programs, Respite, Family Support Services, Medicaid Service Coordination, and Medical and Behavioral Health Services.
